Samsung is working on the successor model of the Galaxy Beam smartphone, it comes with a Pico Projector embedded on the top. If you remember Samsung had previously launched the Galaxy Beam smartphone back in 2012. The device’s USP was its built-in projector, however the device had some pretty low end specs compared to other Galaxy devices. May be the low spec profile of the older Galaxy Beam pulled the buyers back. But this time the company seems more confident about the upcoming Galaxy Beam smartphone as it now features better specs and better projector.
There is one other projector phone in the market right now, its known as Andi 4a projector, its from local Indian manufacturer iBall. Again like older Galaxy Beam this one also disappoints buyers on the spec front. Today when manufacturers are competing in the phablet category with bigger and better displays Samsung’s move with a better projector phone is going to get a different reaction.
There are smartphones that come with external Pico Projector support. The one that is more popular is the Alcatel One touch hero, it is one phone that was marketed with this unique feature. There are other high end smartphones too that support pico projector. But having a built-in projector is an amazing feature. iBall Andi 4a projector came with a 35 lumens projection and had a 4-inch WVGA display. The upcoming Galaxy Beam 2 (purported name for reference) is rumored to come with a 1.2GHZ Quad-Core processor paired with 1GB RAM. The device is said to have a 4.6-inch WVGA display and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board. It will come with 3G only connectivity, the device may get a global launch, but right now its spotted in china. The older Galaxy Beam was launched in India so we can expect Samsung to debut this device too in India.
